A Message from Newton Abbot Police
Over the weekend, police have received multiple reports of thefts from motor vehicles in Newton Abbot.
Officers are reminding members of the public not to leave valuables in the vehicles – thieves know all of the hiding places. We would also advise car owners to park their vehicles in a garage or on a driveway if at all
possible.
Vehicle security
* Remove everything from the car – don’t hide things in the boot,
glovebox or door wells
* Take removable stereos, sat nav equipment and bags with you and wipe
off any marks left behind on your windscreen
* Ensure all your windows and doors are secure before you walk away
* Leave a ‘no valuable in this vehicle’ sign on display which can be
found here – http://dorset.police.uk/default.aspx?page=6911
* Where possible, park your vehicle in a well-lit area with CCTV
cameras
* Never leave your keys in the vehicle, even if you are just leaving it for a few seconds
* Invest in a visible alarming system and security devices such as
steering locks and gearstick locks
